LIVE AT THE CONCERTGEBOUW ‘…soloist this week in Live at the Concertgebouw is Pierre-Laurent Aimard who will appear twice on the Concertgebouw’s main stage in music by Olivier Messiaen, in just a moment, and now by one of Messiaen’s most outstanding students, George Benjamin. The British composer George Benjamin was commissioned by the Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche, the Lucerne Festival and the Cleveland Orchestra to create a new work. Benjamin composed Duet for piano and orchestra. The orchestra lacks the violins and the piano part lacks any display of virtuosity.
