Newsline 20 January 2010: China forces companies that export to the country to relocate there, fragile peace returns to the streets of Jos in Nigeria, and Dutch broadcasters join forces to raise funds for Haiti.
China forces exporters to move
International companies doing business in China say they're being forced to relocate there. Finnish/Dutch manufacturer Wärtsilä, which produces diesel ship engines, has given in to Chinese pressure and decided to move its production facilities out of the Netherlands. The organisation of Dutch exporting companies EVO is angry about the rule, says EVO's Godfried Smit.
Nigerian peace could be short lived
There's relative peace on the streets of the Nigerian city of Jos today after four days of inter-religious violence that left more than 460 people dead. But Corinne Dufka, West Africa Director for Human Rights Watch, doesn’t think we've seen the last of the fighting.
Dutch broadcasters appeal for Haiti
Dutch public and private broadcasters - including Radio Netherlands Worldwide - are joining forces today to broadcast a fundraising appeal for Haiti. Radio Netherlands Worldwide correspondent Hans Jaap Melissen describes how he felt when he saw a woman rescued more than a week after the quake.
