A few years ago, he would have been imprisoned simply for talking to someone from the foreign media, but today, he’s happy not just to talk, but to be photographed and to be named. Tiha Saw talks about the reforms in Burma’s media landscape: not completely without censorship as yet, but the Burmese journalist and editor has high hopes that one day, any newspaper, web media, radio or television station and movie can say anything on any subject at all; a bright future for a country that has suffered a 50 year military regime that routinely imprisoned journalists, performers and bloggers for the slightest infringement.
Also on the programme Dutch photographer Frans Welman talks about his experiences with the people of Nagaland – a rarely visited state in India’s remote northest where the indigenous people have been fighting for autonomy since the 1950’s.
