On this week’s Earth Beat, we take a walk on the wild side. We hear why not everyone is delighted by a pack of wolves who’ve made themselves at home in Germany, we meet a herd of bison enjoying the Dutch sand dunes and we have an update on the DNA of the dodo but will it bring it back?
A pack of wolves
Once hunted to extinction, the wolf now has pride of place roaming the German forests.
Action taken against them can lead to time in prison, but how is it going down with the hunters, especially the one who recently shot a wolf?
A band of bison
This bulky beast was once to be found munching it’s way though the Dutch countryside during the last ice-age. Now six are back and have had babies but will they be as popular if their numbers continue to grow?

Bringing back the dodo…?
Dodos haven’t been around since the 17th century. Much has been unearthed about it’s life and death but now scientists have their hands on it’s DNA. Could this bring the bird back?
Thijs Westerbeek's report
And in our discussion we ask do we have the right to bring back a species we helped drive out and what is there to suggest we’ll treat them differently this time round.
Listen to Marnie Chesterton discuss this with Professor Linzey
Coming up on next week’s programme:
On the mend, we'll be meeting a group of artists who say we should think twice before throwing things away. They've been teaching the citizens of Amsterdam the lost art of mending their belongings.
And as old fashioned light bulbs are shed in Europe and homes get fitted with energy saving ones we hear how much money and electricity they save. Join us as we shed light on these topics and more.
