HEAR THE WORLD "Hear the World presents Ba Cissoko from Guinea. This African Jimi Hendrix and his electronically enhanced kora harp plays a innovative mix of traditional kora music with reggae, rock, blues, Latin and funk. He sings in three Guinean languages. Popular at home they are also becoming a hit in the West.
The programme also features a concert is by a young top pianist from Cuba Harold Lopez Nussa. He played high-level classical music from a young age but eventually choose the jazz stage. He gained fame at home as a backing artist for Omara Portuondo, now he has his own trio. Radio Netherlands recorded his concert at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam.
The Dutch World music delight was actually born in the Austrian Alps. Marion von Tilzer studied piano at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam. On her CD, Kirvani revisited she plays Indian night raga with various Dutch artists. Her songs about longing and passion take you on a nostalgic journey, back home to the Alps.
Finally, the Dastan Ensemble from Iran play enchanting Persian classical music with guest appearances by sarod player Rajeeb Chakraborty and singer Salar Aghily in a performance which is simply poetry."
