Hear the World "In this programme we hear three dynamic live concerts, recorded at the 2009 Music Meeting in the southeastern Dutch city of Nijmegen.
First of all from London funky stuff by Anthony Joseph and the Spasm Band. Anthony Joseph, who is originally from Trinidad, combines his many talents as a singer, writer and poet into an exciting mix of sophisticated funk and jazz. Together with his band, he creates innovative jazzy Afro-Caribbean sounds in which funk and soul influences from the 1970s can be heard.
From Mali, the fiery sound of singer-songwriter Rokia Traoré. She combines Malian music traditions with various other influences in a refreshing way. She sings about everyday life from a woman’s point of view and in her progressive texts she draws attention to women’s rights in Mali’s patriarchal society.
And from Nigeria, exhilarating Afrobeat-grooves by Seun Kuti, son of Fela Kuti, the legendary founder of Afrobeat."
Hear the World is hosted by Dheera Sujan.
