More about:

As pals of the Euro Hit 40 show on Facebook and Euro Hit 40 show listeners already know, we held the first just-for-fun music fest: the EH40 World Pop Contest in 2010. We have now launched a NEW one in for 2011 - yes, with prizes yet again!

Stay up to date by getting our monthly newsletter - or join 800 other friends on our page on Facebook. Below, check the humble contest we held in 2010, and enjoy the SONGS too!****************************************************************************************
2010 - introduction

In 2010, we first asked you to suggest songs, then we put together the line up (2 songs per country). Later you were all invited to vote for the 17 (18 at the start) songs in July and August. The national jury votes were posted here in September.

Below, you'll find the final scoreboard first, then external links to the video/audio files for the 17 songs,  then the 12 versions of the scoreboard that were published throughout September, then some notes on the contest.

******************************************************************************

Voting is closed, but from 1 July to 31 August 2010 people were invited to cast their votes for 10 of the 17 songs chosen by our pals on Facebook.

People were invited to vote as a representative of their native country, or the one in which they now live.

Visit our page on Facebook.com for full details of the competition. There was a main prize for the person who suggested the winning song, and also prizes for the person(s) whose votes most accurately reflected the final outcome.

Updates after 1 July:

16 July: SONG L withdrawn (song more than 2 years old)
19 July: alternative link for SONG H added.
31 July: alternative link for SONG F added.
31 August: Voting ended at 00.00 CET
2 September: Scoreboard corrected, Greece gave 2 points to New Zealand (H), not 1 to Netherlands
(E) and 1 to New Zealand (Q).

*****************************************************************************
Voting and points:

A total of 12 countries - including the 9 participants - awarded points in the contest.

Each country awarded 10 sets of points: 20-18-16-14-12-10-8-6-4-2  based on the totals awarded by the member or members of the national jury for that country.

A draw was held on 1 September to decide the voting order of the countries.

Procedure when votes tied:
In the event of two or more songs obtaining equal votes from members of a national jury, the song with the biggest single vote from one member will take priority over the other (e.g. 4+4 will score lower than 8+0 or 6+2).

If the members' votes are exactly the same (eg 4 votes for song X and 4 votes for song Y) both songs will score the same points - hence 20 and 18 points would become 2 x 19 points, with the next song obtaining 16 points. In this way the grand total number of points awarded by all juries will be constant.

Have you discontinued the ability for our radio statio, WITT,
to download the latest EuroHit 40. We prefer airing it
several times in our automation system and would have to
have a download to save, but noticed this month, May 2011, that preference is no longer available.

I am so sorry I missed out on all this... looks like a lot of fun. But... I had a very stressful summer... with a housemove and various other 'situations'.

Rafi Md. Nazmus Sadat 4 October 2010 - 11:53am / Bangladesh

Dear Tim,

When will we the final result? Please post the final result in the website soon!

So sorry, Rafi, we had updated the page, last Thursday in fact, with India's points at the very bottom. But something seems to have gone BADLY wrong, for which we do most sincerely apologise. The full, final scoreboard is now at the very top, the earlier versions below. Hope this is better! ;-) Greetings and best wishes, Tim F.

Rafi Md. Nazmus Sadat 3 October 2010 - 1:05pm / Bangladesh

Hi Tim,

What is the final result of the competition? Please post the names in the website. Your site should be more user friendly.

Thanks, Rafi

Hi Tim & to all Euro Hit 40 Crew members,

Thanks for your kind and prompt reply. As you very rightly mentioned your answer will not only help me to send my entry but to numerous other listeners facing the same problem.

Thanks again and best of regards from India

Malini 29 August 2010 - 4:01pm

Hello :)
I cannot open my e-mail account for some reason and neither does the e-mail voting form help! Can I instead mail my votes via Facebook inbox?

Rest assured... we did answer Malini, and we did receive her points.

Dear Tim,

The email voting form is not working in my computer. Will it be okey if I mail my entry to the email address of Euro Hit 40?

With kind regards,

Hi Jayanta!

Of course, that's perfectly in order! Thanks for taking the time to highlight a potential problem, too.

For anyone facing the same problem:

Send your votes, plus you name and the name of the country on whose behalf you are voting, to: eurohit40@rnw.nl
Give 10 points to your favourite song, then 9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 to the next 9 on your list. If YOUR country has songs in the contest, you may NOT vote for those songs.
You may vote on behalf of y...our country of BIRTH or the one where you now LIVE.
Thanks again to Jayanta for pointing out the problem
