The core activity of the communication department is to promote Radio Netherlands Worldwide to various target groups interested in the organisation behind our media products.
Who are we?
The communication department consists of five people who are responsible for corporate communication, internal communication and press releases.
What do we do?
The department is responsible for profiling and positioning RNW. Our main target groups are our listeners and readers across the world, the press and our own staff.
Corporate communication
The department has a number of activities geared to raising RNW’s profile. This results in a number of communication products such as the digital annual report, the 'about RNW’ part of the website, corporate brochures, a digital and interactive New Year’s concept and promotional gifts. We also organise special campaigns for debates and congresses.
Press releases
RNW actively seeks publicity by distributing press releases and organising press conferences. In doing so we maintain existing contacts and expand our network. We also promote the programmes and websites by our ten foreign-language departments, as well as RNW’s music CDs.
Internal communication
It is essential for different departments to cooperate closely to create a clear Radio Netherlands image. The intranet plays a primary role in the organisation’s internal communication. We also keep our staff informed by organising regular meetings.
For whom?
Corporate communication is primarily aimed at RNW’s stakeholders. Press releases inform the media as an intermediary in our communication strategy. Internal communication is geared towards keeping our staff well-informed about any developments.
Why?
By explaining who we are and what we do, we show people how RNW fulfils its aims. These aims include informing Dutch-speakers abroad of news and current affairs, providing independent information in countries where there is a lack of independent journalism and presenting a realistic image of the Netherlands abroad.
All this contributes to our mission: “To make a contribution in the name of and on behalf of the Netherlands to a better-informed world by a combination of independent journalism and services.”
Ambitions and plans
Our corporate information has recently been extended for various foreign-language target groups on a brand-new and easily accessible website.
Another key task for the communications department is to inform to the public how RNW is constantly changing to make our programmes and website stories more accessible, more attractive, better distinguishable and more interactive. In short, it is the communication department’s job to continually innovate in the interest of our audience and thus contribute to a better-informed world.
