The fact that the PVV used the animal rights/protection issue to garner votes should not detract from the fact that successive governments have seriously neglected widespread insensitivity and cruelty to animals in this country, particulary in the bio-industry. Most politicians and a significant proportion of the Dutch population apparently couldn't care less about respecting or protecting the wellbeing of animals. As demonstrated in more enlightened cultures, sensitivity to animals' needs is inseparable from sensitivity to humans' needs.
