International observers have praised the second round of Ukraine's presidential election as democratic. Presidential candidate and current Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has questioned whether the run-off passed off fairly.
Results show she has been narrowly beaten by the pro-Russian opposition leader Viktor Yanukovich but she has still not conceded defeat. She has accused her opponents of fraud and is considering challenging the outcome.
The electoral commission says Mr Yanukovich is too far ahead for Ms Tymoshenko to catch up, in effect declaring him the poll's winner. Mr Yanukovich has already claimed victory.
The European Union is satisfied with how the election passed off and says it is looking forward to working with the new Ukrainian president, without actually naming the winner.
