It is a sad story. But look at the husband of Bidi- a good for nothing fellow! Why isn't he working enough to repay the loan? I have been interviewing all the poor people, workmen, house-maids, rickshaw-pullers and the poor patients in the hospital, since the day RNW started this programme. All stories have a common cause, as I commented before: large families, having mostly girls, and all the savings go into the dowry of the girls. They cannot beat the system, so are getting this raw deal. India needs to abolish dowry system and the craze for a boy-child, to get out of poverty. But, easier said, than done!
