Dutch embassy in Yemen to stay open

Published on 3 January 2010 - 7:43pm
More about:

The Dutch embassy in Yemen will not close, unlike those of the United States and Britain. An embassy spokesperson told Radio Netherlands Worldwide that The Hague sees no reason to close the embassy.

Washington and London today decided to close their embassies due to al-Qaeda threats to attack American and British interests in Yemen. The Nigerian who attempted to blow up a US airliner on Christmas Day says he was trained by al-Qaeda in Yemen. In 2008 two bomb attacks at the US embassy in Sanaa killed 16 people. Spain is also closing its embassy in Yemen. Seven Spanish tourists were killed in a suicide car bombing in 2007.
