The Netherlands & US governments were manipulated into the 1962 New York Agreement trading Dutch New Guinea to Indonesia for benefit of the Freeport mining of Papua's wealth. Freeport director Robert Lovett in December 1960 advised US President elect Kennedy to appoint Lovett's friend McGeorge Bundy as the US National Security Adviser; and it was Bundy who began telling Kennedy that he had to coerce the Netherlands into trading West Papua to Indonesia.
