Prostitutes' clients to help fight abuse

Published on 21 November 2009 - 3:34pm
More about:

Amsterdam is setting up a panel of prostitutes' clients to help report abuses.

The municipality wants them to raise the alarm when they suspect women are being forced to work as sex slaves or are under 18. Mayor Job Cohen says the fight against abuses among sex workers will benefit from their clients' being organised. An independent research bureau will select the panel's members. If the trial proves successful, the municipality intends to create similar panels of prostitutes and residents of prostitution areas.
