Saturday 26 May RNW - NEWS AND ANALYSIS FROM THE NETHERLANDS IN 10 LANGUAGES, WORLDWIDE 24/7 ON RADIO, TV AND ONLINE
David Berridge 5 August 2009 - 5:07pm
The essential question here is whether or not Geert Wilders has helped to create something he wished to destroy. While expressing the desire to have the Muslim populace evacuate the Netherlands, now representation of the Islamic faith has entered the mainstream of Dutch political life within the institutions of the Netherlands, even if a single seat has yet to be won. Should Geert become the next Dutch PM he shall still face an organized political opposition to his ideological policies, and not have as easy a time of it as he first thought. Populism will have to yield to democratic process, and in turn, Geert's voters will not have the instant political gratification they have come to demand and expect.
