As a British expat living in the netherlands, and having had to renew my UK passport last year. I can really sympathise. If I had waited till this year I would not have been able to do this at all in the Netherlands at all, I would have to go back to UK or to Paris to get a passport. And the cost has gone up enormously, since the private companies running the UK system have been allowed to ruthlessly exploit those who are forced to use their services.
