Geert Wilders’ lawyer Bram Moszkowicz on Monday argued in court that his client was a victim of a judicial conspiracy.
Mr Moszkowicz said that a number of officials in the judiciary failed to adhere to the golden rule that all suspects are innocent until proven guilty and even actively interfered in the case. All in all, not a very edifying spectacle according to Mr Moszkowicz.
The main target of the lawyer’s attack on the judiciary was Judge Tom Schalken of the Amsterdam court, who co-authored the ruling in which the court ordered the Public Prosecutor’s Office to file charges against the Freedom Party leader. According to his lawyer, the ruling was tantamount to a conviction: “The court clearly anticipated a conviction”. Mr Moszkowicz argued that the ruling was mainly a reflection of Judge Schalken’s loathing for Geert Wilders.
