Many went before him. Following in the footsteps of successful magazine Linda (named for and produced by Dutch TV presenter and actress Linda de Mol) and one-off publications such as Youp (by comedian Youp van ‘t Hek), Geert Wilders is the latest Dutch 'celebrity' to get his own ‘ego-glossy’: Geert.
The journalist’s collective behind the new magazine has announced it will be on newsstands from Thursday.
The editorial crew - in their own words “a fine selection of journalists, photographers and illustrators” - felt it was high time for a magazine focussing on the controversial Freedom Party leader. “Of all people, the most ‘important’ man in the Netherlands has so far had to do without one. Isn’t it shameful that 1.5 million readers have been dismissed like that.”
The editors say their tongue-in-cheek publication Geert will offer readers everything they want to know about the politician. The ‘glossy’ will be available from Thursday at 8,000 outlets across the Netherlands.
