Wesley Sneijder nominated for spoof prize

Published on 23 September 2010 - 9:43pm
More about:

Dutch football star Wesley Sneijder has been shortlisted by the Society against Quackery (VtdK) for its Master Kackadoris Prize 2010.

The spoof award is given to the person or organisation which the society believes has done the most to further bogus medical treatment over the past year. Master Kackadoris is a character from a 17th-century board game, and he is a quack.

Mr Sneijder is up for the prize because he promoted the Power Balance wristband this year. The football international and his wife Yolanthe Cabau van Kasbergen convinced various members of the Dutch national squad to wear what the anti-quackery society describes as the “worthless bauble”.

Four of the Dutch players wore the wristbands during the final of the South Africa World Cup. The Netherlands lost the match.

The winner of the Master Kackadoris Prize will be announced on 2 October.
