Volatile trading on the Amsterdam AEX

Published on 9 August 2011 - 8:21pm
More about:

The Amsterdam stock exchange ended a highly volatile day of trading up by 1.3 percent. Earlier on Tuesday it had been down 5 percent, but many investors were encouraged by the significant gains booked on Wall Street.

The Dow Jones was up 3.1 percent after losses of 5.5 percent on Monday. London and Paris were up by 1.9 percent today, while Frankfurt was down 0.1 percent.

It's the first time in 12 trading sessions that the Amsterdam AEX index has made a profit again. On Monday it fell 4.4 percent in reaction to Friday's downgrade of the United States' credit rating by Standard & Poor.

The euro remained at 1.4230 US dollars, as it was on Monday.
