Arsenal captain Robin van Persie on Sunday tried to nip criticism of his alleged Hitler salute during Saturday’s match against Chelsea (5-3) in the bud.
The Dutchman tapped his shoulder and stretched out his arm toward the crowd after one of the three goals he scored at Stamford Bridge. He twittered it would be “completely absurd” to regard his gesture as anything else than “an expression of joy”
Van Persie said it would be “insulting and absurd to suggest it meant anything else. Such a thing would never occur to me.”
