Holland coach Bert van Marwijk has called up Luuk de Jong (FC Twente), Jeremain Lens (PSV) and Ruud van Nistelrooy (HSV) to join the national football squad as it prepares to take on Hungary in two key qualifying matches for next year’s European Championships.
The three players were dropped from the initial 27-strong squad, but have now been picked to replace the injured Arjen Robben (Bayern München), Theo Janssen (FC Twente) and Klaas Jan Huntelaar (Schalke 04) in the final squad.
The first fixture is in Hungary on Friday and the return encounter in Amsterdam the following Tuesday. Bert van Marwijk's side currently lead UEFA EURO group E on 12 points from four games, with Hungary second, trailing three points.
