The Aruban authorities are looking for US citizen Robyn Gardner (35) who went missing while snorkelling on Tuesday last week. Her travelling companion was arrested a few days later because his statement raised questions.

According to the man - named only as G.V.G. - Robyn Gardner did not return to the beach with him after they went snorkelling together. Search operations involving divers, two helicopters, a plane and several boats have so far failed to find her.

Nearly six years ago, US teenager Natalee Holloway disappeared during a high school graduation trip to Aruba, a Caribbean island nation which is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Dutch citizen Joran van der Sloot, currently in jail in Peru on charges of killing Stephany Flores Ramírez in a Lima hotel room, was arrested on suspicion of being responsible for her death but was later released due to a lack of evidence.
