TV reporters leave Japan

Published on 15 March 2011 - 11:29am
More about:

The Netherlands' public broadcaster NOS is pulling its reporters out of Japan. The four-strong team is working under poor conditions and the constant threat of a nuclear disaster is taking its toll, NOS Deputy Editor Marcel Gelauff said.

"No news story is worth sacrificing colleagues for," Mr Gelauff explained. "It was a logical decision. And practical things like fuelling cars, buying food and finding a place to say were becoming very complicated."

When the situation allows, NOS will send its reporters back to the Japan disaster area. Other broadcasters such as RTL and VRT Belgium have also pulled their staff out of Japan.
