Tropical storm Earl increases to hurricane strength

Tropical storm Earl has increased in strength to hurricane force according to US hurricane centre in Miami.

Warnings have been issued against hurricane Earl in the Dutch Antilles islands of St Maarten, St Eustatius and Saba. The centre has warned people to take measures to protect themselves and their properties as quickly as possible.

The hurricane is expected to make landfall within 48 hours. Hurricane Earl is around 365 kilometres east of the islands. It is traveling at a speed of 30 kilometres per hour towards the west.
