Star Dutch lawyer asked to be justice minister

Published on 22 December 2010 - 10:22am
More about:

Top lawyer Bram Moszkowicz has told the AD newspaper that he was “very recently” asked if he would like to serve as Dutch justice minister. He says he didn’t accept as the offer came too early in his career.

“I’m afraid I can’t tell you any more about it,” says the star courtroom performer. “Let’s just say that it’s a bit too soon for me. Mind you, as a debater, I wouldn’t be out of place in parliament.”

Dutch populist and anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders was represented by Mr Moszkowicz in his recent trial on incitement to hatred charges. The populist MP’s Freedom Party (PVV) has made an agreement to give the minority right-wing Dutch government support in parliament.

Mr Moszkowicz is keeping mum about which party approached him about joining the government. The post of justice minister eventually went to former Rotterdam mayor and member of the conservative VVD party, Ivo Opstelten.
