Speed camera bomb injures three

Published on 23 October 2011 - 9:22am
More about:

An explosive device attached to a roadside speed camera has seriously injured an employee of the government de-mining service.

Following a report about a suspicious object attached to a camera post from a member of the public early on Sunday morning, an inspector of the explosives elimination service (EOD) was dispatched to the traffic enforcement camera in the town of Voorschoten near Leiden.

When two EOD workers, assisted by a police offer, tried to defuse the obviously home-made device, it exploded, injuring all three of them. One of the EOD deminers has been taken to Leiden's university hospital; his colleague and the policeman suffered minor injuries.

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack.
