Socialist Party angry at Sanquin top salaries

Published on 31 July 2011 - 2:10pm
More about:

Despite earlier commotion about the salaries of the executive board of Dutch blood-bank Sanquin, its 2010 annual report reveals that little has changed, the Socialist Party says.

Sanquin’s chief executive still earns 258,000 euro, according to the SP, which says the organisation “apparently has not learned from its mistakes”. Sanquin’s three executives last year reported a joint income of 861,000 euros, including social security and pension contributions.

Over the past few years Sanquin’s executives have repeatedly been criticised for their salaries, which are well above the so-called Balkenende norm, which last year stood at 188,000 euros.

The norm, named after former Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende, is a guideline for public administrator’s salaries not to exceed that of the prime minister.
