Small quake in south of Netherlands

There are reports of an earthquake on Thursday evening in several parts of the Netherlands. 

A minor quake was felt in and around Utrecht, Nijmegen and Venray in central, eastern and southern parts of the country. The police were swamped with phone calls from people wanting to know what was happening.

According to the KNMI, the earthquake registered 4.5 on the Richter scale and was located in Xanten in Germany close to the Dutch border. The tremors took place at a depth of almost eight kilometres.

There are no reports of injury or damage.
