Amsterdam’s AEX index registered a drop of 1.1 percent shortly after it opened on Wednesday morning. Other European exchanges have also fallen.
After the strong showing of the past few days, which followed speculation about new plans to deal with the European debt crisis, investors now appear to be waiting for the details to emerge.
Dutch financial groups ING and Aegon suffered the biggest losses on the AEX on Wednesday morning. They had also made the biggest gains over the last few days.
In Tokyo, where Wednesday’s trading has closed, the Nikkei ended slightly higher than it opened. There too, traders appear to be waiting for details of any new plans to be put forward by European leaders.
