The Yugoslavia Tribunal in The Hague announced on Monday that Serb ultra-nationalist Vojislav Seselj demands the Tribunal pay him 2 million euro in damages for allegedly violating his human rights.
Mr Seselj is complaining about the slow pace of his trial. The marathon case has been dragging along since 2003. The accused is demanding 500,000 euros for the “deliberate postponement of procedures,” and 400,000 euros because the Tribunal is not reimbursing him for his legal fees.
Seselj was indicted in early 2003. The prosecutors accuse him of giving inflammatory speeches which incited Serbs to commit war crimes in the former Yugoslavia.
