Published on 13 September 2011 - 9:47pm
More about:

Queen Beatrix, Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Máxima attended the opening performance of 50th anniversary celebrations of the Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam on Tuesday evening.

Highlights from the company’s past five decades, including Giselle, Sleeping Beauty and Don Quichot, were performed at the gala in Amsterdam's Music Theatre. All 80 dancers of the Netherlands largest ballet company took part.

Work by choreographers Rudi van Dantzig, Hans van Manen, Ted Brandsen and William Forsythe were performed. International solo dancers with ties to the company also took the stage.

The celebrations will last the whole season ending with a gala dedicated to the work of 80-year-old Hans van Manen, one of the Netherlands most important choreographers.

The Music Theatre is also celebrating its 25th anniversary this weekend
