The owner of the Anne Frank tree wants to donate what remains of the tree after it blew down in a storm to Jewish museums in Berlin, New York, Tel Aviv and Amsterdam.

The Anne Frank Foundation in Amsterdam will in any case receive a disk of the trunk to put on display in the Anne Frank House. The Jewish Museum in Berlin would like to have a piece of wood from the fallen tree and has submitted a request to this effect. The owner has since decided to honour the request and has asked the Amsterdam Jewish Historical Museum as well as museums in the United States and Israel whether they would also like to receive a disk cut from the trunk of the fallen tree. Italian sculptor Giuseppe Penone has submitted a request to create a work of art from the tree trunk.

From an uncovered window in the annex where the Frank family was hiding, Anne had a view of the chestnut tree. She mentioned it several times in her diary. On 13 May 1944 she wrote: "Our chestnut tree is in full bloom from bottom to top. It is full of leaves and much more beautiful than last year".
