Record turnout for New Year’s Day Dip

Published on 1 January 2012 - 5:57pm
More about:

This New Year’s Day Dip at Scheveningen beach outside The Hague has drawn a record 10,000 people.

All the available tickets were sold out at half past eleven, half an hour before the crowd was allowed to rush into the icy sea water. It’s the first time that the tickets have sold out, a spokesperson said.

In all, some 90 New Year’s Day Dips took place at midday across the country. The high turnout may be the result of the mild weather. This year the sea water had a temperature of 8 ºC compared with 4 ºC last year.
