Dutch Labour Party councillor Gadiza Bouazani was taken into custody by Israeli police who thought she was one of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla activists aboard the same plane to Tel Aviv.

The Utrecht PvdA councillor's Arabic name led authorities to think she was a Flotilla activist. She was stopped by police at Tel Aviv airport straight away.

Ms Bouazani spent the night in a prison cell with 22 other women and was released the next day. The councillor was on her way to the Palestinian territories to do volunteer work, fellow councillor Sytse Koopmans told Dutch daily de Volkskrant.
