Water companies are planning to install public water taps throughout the Netherlands to encourage people to refill empty plastic bottles rather than throwing them away.

The water taps will be placed in busy areas such as hiking and biking routes where people are most likely to have water bottles with them and run out of water. Water companies in South and North Holland have already begun placing water taps. Other provinces are to follow soon. Foundation Join the Pipe is particularly active in urban areas, where companies and institutions can approach the group to install a water tap near them.
