Probe into prince’s accident to take weeks

Published on 21 February 2012 - 8:15pm
More about:

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the ski accident Dutch Prince Johan Friso suffered in Austria on Friday is expected to take several weeks, the Austrian Public Prosecutor says.

The probe is fosussing on the man accompanying the prince when they were struck by an avalanche near the western village of Lech, a spokesperson said. The man has been named as Florian Moosbrugger (42), the Austrian owner of the inn where the Dutch Royal Family have been spending many winter ski holidays.

The inquiry centres on the question whether the man is guilty of causing bodily harm by negligence under dangerous circumstances. Such an investigation is standard procedure with ski accidents, the spokesperson added.

Once the preliminary investigation has been concluded in a few weeks’ time, three scenarios are possible, the spokesperson noted. Either a charge is brought or the case is dropped or further research will be conducted.
