Princess Mabel will not join the other Dutch royals when they visit the towns of Rhenen and Veenendaal on Queen’s Day on 30 April.
The government information service announced that she would be absent because of the condition of her husband Prince Johan Friso, who is still in a coma after a skiing accident in Austria on 17 February.
No changes to the programme of the royal visit were made, the details of which were announced at a press conference in Rhenen.
The royals will first visit Rhenen, where they will take part in an old local tradition: toilet bowl throwing. In Veenendaal, just a few kilometres from Rhenen, the royal visit will focus on the history of the town’s peat, tobacco and wool industry.
