Princess Amalia celebrates 7th birthday

Published on 7 December 2010 - 10:09am
More about:

Princess Amalia, the eldest daughter of Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Máxima, has turned seven today. The second-in-line for the throne will celebrate at the family home in Wassenaar, together with her parents and two sisters, Alexia and Ariane.

To mark the milestone event, an aeroplane will be named after the young royal. KLM's CEO Peter Hartman will rechristen an old Dakota Princess Amalia. The legendary Dakota PH-PBA came into the hands of Prince Bernhard - the deceased father of reigning Queen Beatrix - after World War II and was the official Dutch government's plane between 1947 and 1961. Prince Bernhard has expressed a wish for the plane to be named after his great-granddaughter.

The royal birthday will be not go unmarked in The Hague as the Royal Dutch Navy choir give a traditional Princess Amalia concert. But Amalia herself will not be able to attend either the aeroplane rechristening ceremony or the concert - even little princesses have to go to school on an ordinary weekday.
