Praise for Dutch handling of human trafficking victims

Published on 18 October 2010 - 11:10pm
More about:

The European Commission says the Netherlands accepts a “considerable” number of victims of human traffickers. Together with Belgium, Italy, France and Germany, the Netherlands has a good record when it come to granting residence to trafficked people.

Most European Union countries limit the number of victims of people smuggling they accept. The EC’s report calls on these countries to do more to protect such victims.

European Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmström says: “We can’t accept that just a few thousand victims get help when hundreds of thousands of people are thought to be victims of people trafficking each year”.
