Police stop and search in Amsterdam

Published on 2 November 2011 - 8:43pm
More about:

Extra police have been deployed in Amsterdam because of home side Ajax’ Champions League match against Croatian football club Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday evening.

Police are warning that the city centre and routes to Ajax home ground - the ArenA – are “risk areas”. Officers have been ordered to stop and search people to prevent trouble there.

The security measures have been implemented because of problems caused by some of the Dinamo supporters around previous matches with Ajax.

The Amsterdam team will have to win tonight’s match to stay in second position in Group D in the Champions League.
