Police foil Molotov cocktail New Year plan

Published on 31 December 2011 - 10:33pm
More about:

Police in The Hague have arrested four youth who were planning to throw Molotov cocktails at officers during New Year’s Eve celebrations, says news station RTL.

Investigations were launched after the police received a tip. Evidence was collected using social media sites and camera footage from shops where the ingredients for the petrol bombs were bought.

The authorities had warned that social media sites would be monitored in an attempt to prevent public order offences round New Year.

Ban
Two of the youths, who are aged from 15 to 18, had already been banned from certain areas of The Hague during the New Year celebrations. All four youths will now spend the New Year in custody.

While one of the youths was being arrested, an 18-year-old woman rode her motor scooter at a policeman. She has also been arrested.
