The Peruvian Public Prosecutors’ Office has told Dutch news agency ANP it will seek a 30-year jail sentence for Dutchman Joran van der Sloot. He is accused of killing Peruvian student Stephany Flores in a Lima hotel room on 30 May 2010.
The public prosecutor rejected Van der Sloot’s defence that he acted from a ‘violent emotion’. His lawyers tried to persuade the public prosecutor to charge their client with manslaughter, which in Peru carries a sentence of between 6 and 20 years.
The public prosecutor will ask the court to order the suspect to pay damages to the amount of 200,000 Peruvian soles, around 50,000 euros.
It is not yet clear when the trial will start. The Public Prosecutor's Office has submitted the indictment and the jail term it seeks. The trial date will be set by the court at a later time.
Joran van der Sloot was arrested on 3 June 2010 in Chile near the coastal resort of Viña del Mar. He was handed to the Peruvian authorities two days later and has been in custody in Lima's Castro Castro prison since 11 June 2010.
The three taxi drivers who drove Van der Sloot to the Chilean border will also be indicted on charges of obstructing justice. The public prosecutor is seeking a five-year prison sentence and a fine of 5,000 soles (1,250 euros) against the three.
Joran van der Sloot is still the main suspect in the disappearance of US teenager Natalee Holloway on the Caribbean island of Aruba in May 2005. He has never been charged due to lack of evidence.

Come on you know as well as I do they cant prove what time this woman died or what happen in that room,and rape the girl was said to still have her pants on.My the people sure want to make sure Joran is put away so no one finds the truth out. I been saying all along get the DNA from the dead womans body to prove it is Stephany Flores. He didnt do this.

I for one would encourage Joran to hire you as his defense attorney. Imagine the trial. The prosecution lays out their case against Joran. Their evidence? A body, blood, videotapes, flight, confession, the murder weapon (Joran's shirt), the murder scene (Joran's hotel room), the robbery, etc. Motive, means, opportunity, and physical damning evidence. And then they let YOU speak. "Yur honir. I's just a simple contry gurl,but even I's can c thar's no evedance that's can stick to this here yung man. Is all a setup by the US FBI to get him! If youse caan't c thru dat, youse can jus kiss my fat a*@!" When you're finished, and after all the judges have their giggling under control, they sentence joran to life in prison instead of just 30 years because of his obvious disrespect for the intelligence of the courts. And they sentence you to an education starting over at preschool.

Excellent news. When JVDS is released in 2041 at the young age of 54, he'll be sent to the states and sentenced to another 20 yrs of which he"ll serve 10. He'll be 64 when he's finally set free and at least $100k in debt to the courts and families of his the girls he murdered.
