Party music to stop football riots

Published on 5 April 2012 - 8:31am
More about:

Amsterdam's Mayor Eberhard van der Laan wants party music to be played after football matches at Ajax's stadium the Arena.

The mayor hopes the music will calm supporters and make them less likely to riot.

The Dutch daily De Telegraaf reports Mayor Van der Laan made the suggestion in a letter to the city council.

In that letter, the mayor writes that the music could provide a cooling down period for adrenaline-pumped supporters. The idea is to allow the supporters to expend some of this energy by dancing, so it's not unleashed it in the city in the form of vandalism and nuisance.
