Over one million hold two passports

Published on 1 December 2011 - 9:24pm
More about:

More than one million people in the Netherlands held a passport from another country in addition to a Dutch one in 2010. According to figures from the Dutch statistics office, the number of those with two nationalities has slowly gone up over the last four years.

According to Statistics Netherlands (CBS), 1.16 million Dutch people hold a second passport, up from one million in 2006.

About 280,000 of those with dual nationality have a Turkish passport, according to CBS. More than 300,000 hold a passport for an African country, with the vast majority from Morocco. About 100,000 dual passport holders are of Asian descent and 10,000 from Afghanistan and Iran.

Only those living indefinitely in the Netherlands were considered in the CBS data. The agency calculates the number of dual passport holders annually.
