Over 6400 dead Srebrenica Muslims identified

Published on 9 July 2010 - 6:28pm
More about:

The International Commission on Missing Persons has identified the bodies of 6481 people massacred after the fall of Srebrenica in 1995.

The ICMP says blood samples taken from relatives of those missing have allowed it to find matches with skeletal remains found in mass graves. The ICMP estimates up to 8100 people were murdered after the fall of the United Nations safe haven.

On Sunday it will be 15 years ago that Bosnian Serbs took the Muslim enclave of Srebrenica. On that same day, the remains of 775 people identified over the past 12 months will be reinterred in the village of Potocari near Srebrenica.

A convoy carrying the remains of those 775 people left on Friday from the town of Visoko, in central Bosnia, to Potocari.
