Nearly the entire opposition has called for an emergency debate on government plans which will adversely affect vulnerable groups in society.
On Tuesday, Labour Party leader Job Cohen criticised the planned cuts in job placements for people with disabilities, facilities for young people with disabilities and personal budgets for care of the chronically ill.
The coalition parties – conservative VVD and the Christian Democrats – along with the Freedom Party (PVV), which supports the minority cabinet in parliament, want to postpone the debate until effects of the measures become apparent.
MPs, however, have shown enough support for an emergency debate to take place. When it will be held is uncertain.
