Dutch soccer club FC Twente failed to get through to the group phase of the Champions League on Wednesday. The squad trained by Co Adriaanse lost 3-1 to Benfica in the play-offs. Their first match against Benfica at home in Enschede ended in a 2-2 draw last week.
Benfica took the lead just after half-time with a goal from Axel Witsel. About an hour into the match, Luisao made it 2-0, with Witsel scoring again afterwards. Shortly before the final whistle, Bryan Ruiz got Twente’s only goal of the game.
