Netherlands sees big drop in infant mortality

Published on 26 November 2011 - 6:14pm
More about:

Infant mortality in the Netherlands dropped by 39 percent between 2001 and 2010, a large-scale survey finds.

Last year 367 full-term babies died within four weeks of their birth. In 2004, Holland had one of Europe’s highest infant mortality rates. The figure probably encouraged health providers to improve care, the survey’s authors say. They also point out that procedures have also been improved since then.

Recent figures from other countries are lacking, making it impossible to say if the Netherlands has improved its record.
