Netherlands to crack down on criminal foreigners

Published on 3 February 2012 - 9:33am
More about:

Immigration Minister Gerd Leers has drawn up a plan to crack down on immigrants who commit crimes.

Mr Leers wants to deport immigrants who have been sentenced to a term of imprisonment or youth detention - even if just for one day - within one year of being admitted to the Netherlands.

The cabinet will discuss Minister Leers’ plan on Friday.

Immigrants involved in serious crimes always risk being deported, regardless of how long they have been living in the Netherlands.
